We are investigating an incident
in which a 3-year-old girl was found at the bottom of the Motel 6 pool earlier
this afternoon on South Timberland Drive.
At 4:56 p.m. dispatch received a
call from a motel employee who was watching on camera from the lobby as a Good
Samaritan administered CPR to the child after pulling her from the pool.
It appears the girl got out of her
family’s downstairs room which faced the pool while her father was asleep. She
managed to enter the fenced pool area due to a broken gate latch.
Lufkin Fire paramedics arrived and
transported her to CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Lufkin. She was then flown to
Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Her condition and prognosis and unknown.
“We know from surveillance video
that she was under water for several minutes,” Lufkin Police spokeswoman
Jessica Pebsworth said. “She and her family could use all the prayers they can
get.”
