Police and SWAT officers volunteered their time to offer firearm and active shooter training to a group of Texas teachers

By PoliceOne Staff

ENNIS, Texas — Police and SWAT officers volunteered their time to offer firearm and active shooter training to a group of teachers.

WKRG reports that teachers in North Texas attended a free event Saturday to receive training led by former officer Tim Bulot. The training comes in wake of the Parkland school shooting that left 17 people dead.

“It’s scary sometimes. We do our best to have security at our schools, but you never know what’s going to happen. And it’s better to be prepared than not prepared,” teacher Kim Raney said.

Bulot, who has nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience, said it’s his first time holding an event like this, adding that normally, it’s “police officers, SWAT and overseas contractors who we train here.”

“I wanted to bring teachers and law enforcement together into our world because now we’re not the first ones there on these active shooters. They are,” Bulot said.

The training was open to any independent school district or faculty member. Bulot said he showed attendees the basics of shooting and the intricacies of potentially using a firearm in a school setting, according to KXAS.

“If does work out to where they are allowed to carry, or some of them are allowed to carry, at least having gone through training like this they’ll be a little ahead of the game,” Bulot said.
