Media Alert

Westbound Lanes of I-10 to Close for Railroad Bridge Work

WHAT: The westbound main lanes of I-10 East Freeway in Houston, Texas, from I-610 East Loop to Wayside Drive/US 90 Alternate will be closed beginning at 9 p.m., Friday, February 23 through Monday, 5 a.m., February 26. The closure is required so Union Pacific can make required repairs to the rail bridge that spans the interstate.

The repair work to the bridge is necessary due to repeated strikes by oversize trucks and vehicles.  Crews from Union Pacific will be repairing the support girders on the underside of the bridge structure. This work helps to ensure the safety and integrity of the bridge. While the rail bridge is out of service, freight train traffic will be re-routed on different lines through the city. As a result, residents may see a variance from normal train traffic patterns during the weekend.

Motorists traveling I-10 westbound will need to detour to the I-610 northbound connector continue along I-610 to the I-69 southbound connector and then take I-10 East or West.

Motorists traveling US 90 will detour to the I-610 northbound connector to the frontage road travel through the Gelhorn Dr. intersection to re-enter the freeway and continue along I-610 to the I-69 southbound connector and then take I-10 East or West.

Union Pacific worked with the Texas Department of Transportation and the City of Houston to schedule and coordinate this project to minimize traffic disruption and to alert drivers in advance. Union Pacific encourages motorists to pay attention to roadway and detour signs and thanks them in advance for their patience.

WHERE:  The westbound lanes of I-10 in Houston, Texas, between the I-610 Loop East and Wayside Drive.

WHEN: Closed from 9:00 p.m., February 23 to 5:00 a.m., February 26.
