BREAUX BRIDGE, Louisiana -- A who claimed to be from Texas was jailed after Louisiana State Police seized nearly 700 pounds of marijuana in a traffic stop on Interstate 10 east of Breaux Bridge.
A trooper stopped 38-year old Pedro Matamoros about 5:30 a.m. for a traffic violation and received permission to search the van and subsequently found 691.6 pounds of marijuana. Investigators say the weed was bound for a location in Louisiana and was worth about $1 million.
Authorities arrested Matamoros who gave a Brownsville, Texas address, on a charge of driving in the wrong lane of traffic and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
He is being held in the St. Martin Parish Jail.
