A Bacliff resident had keys to a vehicle taken from him at gunpoint by a man falsely claiming to be a deputy sheriff late Wednesday.

Galveston County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 200 block of Texas in Bacliff about 11:35 PM after a caller reported a man saying he was a deputy sheriff, wearing a police-type hat, displaying a badge and brandishing a pistol, took a set of keys to a car the caller's girlfriend was in the process of purchasing.  Deputies learned the man and a woman believed to be the owner of the car returned a short time later and took the vehicle, the actual ownership of which is disputed.

The victim told investigating deputies he believed the impersonator, who left the scene in a white Toyota truck, was actually a deputy based on the hat the man was wearing along with the badge he showed.  The victim was uninjured.

Information provided by the victim led to deputies to find the impersonator and his vehicle at a gas station in the 1700 block of W. Walker in League City.  They found a cap displaying a "Department of Corrections" emblem, a gold "State of Texas Process Server" badge, and a pistol, all matching the descriptions given by the victim, inside the impersonator's truck.

Curtis Andrew Wheeler, 43, of Houston, was taken into custody without incident and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Impersonating a Public Servant.  Wheeler was later released from the Galveston County Jail after posting bonds totaling $60,000.

Deputies believe Wheeler is a private process server with no authority as a law enforcement officer.

Comments:
Report this process server to the Process Server Review board. This is unacceptable behavior and should not be tollerated.

He did this to me in 2010. He stole 2 jet ski's, boat, expedition that was new, 55" TV from a house over 4 hours from Galveston where I was living at the time. He drove all the way to Palestine Texas and even stole my John dear tracker and told me that he was doing his job. He presented himself to me as a private investigator that was hired to watch my ex-husband. He even stole my registered firearm and 4 wheeler, atm cards, and check books as well as all my Jewelry. He told Galveston Texas police department that i was crazy and due to the connections between him and detective Gomez, no one would take a report. We have him on film stealing some of the items. When i called Galveston Texas police department last week after finding out this happened again to someone else, they had no police reports of anything i reported. Funny since my fire arm was returned to me with my father present in a box marked evidence. He must be stopped. If anyone can help me there is a reward for the return and justice to be done to this lying not licensed underbelly.. Call me at 3614637210.

Also beware there is an attorney involved with him. I called the bar association and got my money returned to me concerning this case. Beware. Capital one bank also charged him with all the unauthorized charges he did. Doc surfer

I did the investigations into the bailiff arrest and the charges were dismissed after the parties involved admitted to fabricating story. He is in good standing with the texas Supreme Court and DPS as private investigator and fugitive recovery agent. He was also awarded damages and judgements .

People believe everything they read in the internet.
Galveston Daily news did a follow up on this story
And Mr. Wheeler was dismissed of all charges August
5th 2013. He is in good standing with the Texas
Supreme Court, as a private investigator. People need
To remember you are innocent until proven guilty. Curtis
Is a great guy and good at what he does. As far as
As other negative comments left about him I personally
Would refrain from trying to make him look like a bad
Guy. That could lead to suit

I came across this while trying to find Mr. Wheeler contact information for his services. He was referred to me by associates that use him. Just to make sure I checked into this and found charges were dropped! Also found him as private investigator on DPS since 2004. I hired him and called him. I also gave him number of lawyers who handle people who post slanderous remarks. As stated I'm happy to use his services and will refer him to my clients
