Multi-Agency Investigation Targets Methamphetamine Organization Based in Burnet County
AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) today announced the arrest of 15 suspects and conducted search warrants on two Burnet County properties in connection with a multi-agency investigation of an area drug distribution and trafficking organization.
In May 2013, DPS’ Criminal Investigations Division (CID) initiated the investigation in cooperation with Burnet County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, Austin Police Department, Cedar Park Police Department, Burnet County District Attorney Office, Burnet Police Department, Bertram Police Department, Llano Police Department, Llano County Sheriff’s Office, Heart of Texas Auto Theft Task Force, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
The searched properties were the residences of Jimmy Don Hardin and Glen Alexander, who were among those arrested. During the past six months, CID identified Hardin and associates as suspects in the alleged distribution of methamphetamine in Williamson, Burnet, Llano, Travis, Bell, Blanco, Lampasas, and Bastrop counties. CID agents also identified nearly 70 individuals either directly selling or using methamphetamine allegedly purchased from Hardin and associates.
Officers seized two ounces of methamphetamine, more than 70 firearms, more than $10,000 in cash, and more than 8,000 rounds of ammunition during the two property searches.
In late November, DPS CID agents working with the Burnet County District Attorney’s Office prepared two search warrants for methamphetamine and 24 arrest warrants for engaging in organized criminal activity (first degree felony). The judges of both the 33rd and 424th Judicial District Courts issued the arrest warrants for individuals identified as alleged wholesalers or retailers of methamphetamine.
