June 2, 2014 – News Release:
Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
On June 1, 2014 around 1739 hours, officers with the College Station Police Department responded to a report of a major accident in the 12000 block of FM 2154. Upon arrival, officers learned that a black 2008 Mazda 6 was traveling north on FM 2154. The Mazda 6 left the roadway crossing over a sidewalk and small grass embankment before colliding with a white 2011 Ford F-250 parked in a nearby business parking lot. The impact from this collision pushed the Ford F-250 into the owner of the pickup who was standing behind it. The impact of the pickup colliding with the victim caused him to be thrown several feet across the parking lot. The victim was transported to the College Station Medical Center for non-incapacitating injuries.
The driver of the Mazda 6 attempted to flee the area on foot. However, witnesses were able to give a description of the suspect and he was located a short distance away by officers. Through investigation, it was determined that the suspect was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and as a result recklessly caused bodily injury to the victim by striking his parked and stationary vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle was therefore used as a weapon in the commission of the offense causing the victim’s injuries.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The suspect was identified as:
30 years of age
Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a second degree felony punishable by imprisonment of 2 to 20 years and a fine of up to $10,000.
