Apparent drowning victim's body found Thursday

The Coast Guard has identified the man whose body was found in waters near Charlie’s Pasture Pier Thursday, May 30.

He was Marcus B. Hancock, 41, according to Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Brendan Evans.

Evans said Hancock was a Port Aransas resident. Port Aransas Police Chief Scott Burroughs said Hancock had identification on him that gave an Aransas Pass address, but it wasn't determined where he was living at the time of his death.

Preliminary investigation shows that Hancock likely drowned, but it will be the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office that will make an official determination on manner of death, Evans said.

Hancock was seen fishing from a bulkhead near the pier Wednesday. Witnesses shortly later saw his body in the water, Evans said.

Police haven’t found anyone who saw him in the act of going into the water, so it apparently is unknown why he ended up in the channel.
