City Council Appoints New Municipal Court Judge and Associate Judge

The City of League City is welcoming a new municipal court judge this week.  Judge Kathleen McCumber was appointed Presiding Municipal Court Judge by the League City City Council in a 7-0 vote at Tuesday night's City Council Meeting.  McCumber has served as League City's Associate Judge for the past 10 months.  She is also a local attorney with the law firm of Cagle and McCumber and serves as Justice of the Peace for Galveston County Precinct 8-1.

McCumber replaces Judge Kerri Foley, who served as League City's Presiding Municipal Court Judge for the past 10 years.  Foley resigned during Tuesday's City Council meeting. She has been appointed as judge for Galveston County Court at Law 3.   Foley says League City has given her the opportunity to work with some fantastic people, and she hopes to continue the relationships and friendships she's built in the community.  "I am leaving League City, but I will still continue to serve League City just in county court instead of municipal court," said Foley.

City Council also appointed a new associate judge.  Richard Cope will serve as municipal court associate judge for 90 days, at which time City Council will assess the position.  Cope is an attorney with a law practice in Friendswood.  He has 40 years of law experience and a J.D. from the University of Houston.   City Council will take action on contracts for both the presiding and associate judge at the July 9 council meeting.
