LEAGUE CITY -- Authorities on Tuesday asked for the public's help in finding the driver in a fatal weekend hit-and-run.

The driver of a white four-door pickup intentionally hit and killed Armando Maldonado Cruz, 54, in the 100 block of Texas Avenue, in League City police said in a statement issued today.

Cruz, of Houston, was hit by the truck shortly after midnight Saturday in the 100 block of Texas Avenue.

Witnesses say there were two people in the truck which may have been a landscaping or lawn maintenance truck.  The driver was heard to be speaking Spanish to a heavyset anglo woman with him in the truck.

The pickup left the scene going west on FM 518. Investigators said the first three digits of the license plate are “02K".

Cruz was pronounced dead on arrival at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center Hospital in Webster.
