GALVESTON - A police chase that originated in Pearland early this morning came to an end in Galveston after Galveston officers deployed spike strips at at least 3 locations along Broadway Blvd.

According Pearland Police, State Troopers, Galveston County Sheriff's Deputies and deputies from Harris County Precinct 8 Constable's Office chased the vehicle south on the Gulf Freeway.  The driver reportedly got off the freeway going through Friendswood, then back onto the freeway, continuing through Houston, Pasadena, Webster, League City, La Marque and south into Galveston.

The driver, 17-year old Alexandria Elizabeth Falkenburg of Friendswood, who had earlier been reported as a runaway, evaded at least 2 spike strips deployed on Broadway by Galveston Police.  The chase continued all the way through Galveston to 1st Street on the east end of the island where she made a u-turn and sped back west where she finally hit a spike stip which flatened 3 tires bringing her to a stop at 10th Street.

Falkenburg was taken back to Pearland where she was booked into jail and charged with evading arrest and Driving Under the Influence (Minor)

The Police News asked the Galveston Police Department for a report on the event and here is what it's PIO officer sent us:

On 08/11/2012 Officers responded to the causeway to assist DPS, GCSO, and PCT 8 in a vehicle pursuit that was coming on to the island.

Officers followed the vehicle involved in the chase down Broadway to the end of the Seawall. The vehicle then turned around and proceeded West on Seawall.

Spike strips were successfully deployed at 1st and Sewall. The driver stopped at 10th and Broadway where a Felony High Risk Traffic Stop was performed.

PCT 8 Constables took custody of the driver who is reported to be a runaway out of Pearland.

We then asked the Galveston police spokesman for the name of the driver who led the large posse of officers on a chase from the causeway, all the way down Broadway to the opposite end of the island and were told the GPD didn't have her name.

With this we called the other agencies involved and discovered they all had the young ladies name even though they were merely assisting in the chase.

KPRC TV-2 in Houston contributed to this report
