Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset announced today an arrest in the 1984 Unsolved Murder of Ellen Rae Beason, then 31-years old.
A Sheriff’s Office Detective with the assistance of the League City Police and the FBI has arrested and charged Clyde Edwin Hedrick, 59 of San Leon, with Murder.
Ellen Rae Beason was reported to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office as a missing person in July 1984 and was reported to be last seen at the Texas Moon Club in League City by a friend who noticed her car still parked there the following day. It was reported at the time she had left the club with a man in a pickup truck, leaving her car there.
In 1985 detectives received information on the whereabouts of Ms. Beason’s body. She then was recovered in an area just off the old causeway road in Galveston County.
In November of 2011, detectives opened this cold case and developed new evidence which led to Beason’s remains being removed from her grave site and sent to the University of North Texas Health Science Center to be examined by Dr. H. Gil-King, Forensic Pathologist. Dr. Gil-King determined that Beason's skull received blunt force trauma which he identified as a Homicide. Additional DNA examination was performed to confirm this was Ellen Rae Beason remains.
Detectives met with Galveston County District Attorney, Jack Roady who authorized the issuance of a warrant for Clyde Edwin Hedrick for First Degree Murder and he remains in custody in lieu of $150,000.00 bond.
Sheriff’s Office Detectives working this cold case are seeking any information from the public in this case or any other unsolved Homicide in Galveston County.
