Jake was born August 8, 1936 in Galveston, Texas to Juan Rodriguez, Sr. and Isabel Lara Rodriguez. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country honorably. He was the longtime owner and operator of the famous El Jardin Restaurant in Galveston. Jake was a member of the Woodmen of the World, LULAC Council 151, Sacred Heart Men’s Club, American Legion Post 20, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 880, The Chamber of Commerce and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He loved watching Boxing, tinkering with stuff in his garage, Barbecuing and socializing with his friends and customers at the restaurant. The love of his life was his grandchildren and great grandchildren and he truly loved spending time with them. Jake never met a stranger. He would always help those in need. He will be greatly missed by the people of Galveston who loved his food and friendship.

The family expresses their thanks to the Galveston EMS Paramedics, the Dr.’s, Nurses and staff of UTMB, for their heroic efforts and kind and compassionate care given to our loved one. We are truly grateful.

I doubt there has been a lawman/woman in Galveston in the last 20 years, or even longer, that didn't know Jake. Jake's El Jardin Restaurant was the gathering place for officers and deputies everyday either for breakfast, lunch or just a cup-a-java, and Jake would be a the 'big table' with them, swapping yarns and enjoying the comradery.
The entire Rodriguez family were, and still are, friends of law enforcement and they let it be known everyday. We will all miss Jake. The El Jardin won't be the same without him.
Farewell friend, we'll see you on the other side.

*** Jake your going to be missed ***Jake was my dads first cousin- on April 7th my dad went to heaven! And Jake & his brother Robert were there for my dad till his last day. Jake was an amazing man & was always there for his family; no matter what the situation was. I still cant believe it. He sat there and talk to us about how important family was to him. And stories about growing up! He said to call your family members,go visit them when you can & let them know how much you love them cause you never know when it's your time.... now these are the words that I keep hearing... your going to be missed Jake, love ya!

We are praying blessings and favor upon the entire Rodriguez Family. Our hearts are sad but, full of joy at having met Jake. Jake was a true friend of his community and his neighbors. For Jake there was not distance or walls, everyone became his friend with a greeting, a smile and hug for all. On behalf of Primera Iglesia Assemblea de Dios and the congregation.
