FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LEAGUE CITY JAIL EMPLOYEE ARRESTED FOR OFFICIAL OPPRESSION
August 15, 2013

On August 14, 2013, investigators with the Public Integrity Division of the Galveston County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, with the assistance of the League City Police Department and the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, arrested a League City jail employee on a charge of Official Oppression.

The District Attorney’s Office was recently advised of an incident which occurred on July 4, 2013, alleging inappropriate conduct by jail employee Gilber B. Oliva, age 25, against a female while she was in custody of the jail. The complaint further alleged that Oliva continued to contact the female victim by sending text messages and photographs to her cellular telephone.

The investigators presented the facts to a Justice of the Peace and obtained a warrant for Oliva’s arrest on a charge of Official Oppression by subjecting the victim to sexual harassment. Oliva was arrested late in the afternoon on August 14 at the League City Police Department as he reported to work. Oliva was booked into the Galveston County Jail and his bond was set at $5,000.
