Authorities say they have recovered the body of an 18-year-old who went missing in the San Jacinto River on Wednesday.

According to Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, the body of Jared Brimhall was found Sunday morning near Magnolia Bend just off FM 1314. This is about a half-mile south from where he was last seen.

Judge Trey Spikes, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, and Judge James Metts, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, were also involved in the search for the missing teen.

Brimhall went swimming with his 19-year-old girlfriend around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. He went under the water and didn’t come back up. Heavy rains last week made conditions on the river more dangerous than usual.

Brimhall’s parents claim they were not notified until more than three hours after their son went missing. The teen’s father insists that authorities knew the identity of his son from the get-go.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the amount of debris floating in the river made it difficult to search. Sonar equipment they would normally use did not work because of the debris, washed up in the recent rainstorm.

Brimhall was set to graduate from Conroe High School Saturday.
