Chambers County Sheriff’s dispatch received a 9-1-1 call on March 29 at 3:15pm to a boating accident at Hugo Point Park, located at the end of Gou Hole Road. It was reported that two boats had crashed into each other. One of the boats had two occupants and the other boat had four. Trinity Bay Medical Service and Cove Fire Department responded with two Rescue Units.

Chambers County Sheriff's Marine Resource Division, was dispatched to the scene then requested the assistance of the Game Warden.

A 14 year old girl visiting family from Louisiana, suffered serious injuries from the accident and was Life-Flighted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. The girl’s grandmother, Glenda Leccesse was also injured and transported by ambulance to a hospital. The other two occupants from the four-person boat were treated at the hospital and released.

John Keller and Hunter Medlin, both from Cove, who were in the other boat, suffered minor injuries. They were both treated and released from the hospital.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Chambers County Sheriff's Office Marine Division.

Investigators say two factors in the accident may have been the speed of both boats and the fact they were both making blind turns.
