Rufus Rife Ferrino, 85, of La Marque passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 in Texas City, Texas.

He was born November 6, 1927 in Port Arthur, Texas to Michael and Angela Rife Ferrino.

Rufus was a longtime resident of La Marque for 45 years; a graduate of Kirwin High School;

A veteran of the US Navy serving in WWII; he was member of the Masonic Lodge, El Mina Shrine, VFW of La Marque and The Texas Police Association of Galveston; he was a Galveston Police Officer, a La Marque Police Officer and he retired from the Galveston County Sheriff's Office as a Lieutenant with over fifty years of law enforcement service.

Rufus was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lillian Marie Lil Ferrino; his second wife Irene Ball Ferrino, daughter Iris Egbert and brothers Henry Ferrino, Richard Ferrino and Paul Appolnar.

He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law; Christie Mounts Beene and Steven of Eustace, TX and Susan Kay ?Sue? Froebel and Jamie of Texas City, TX; son and daughter-in-law; David ?Bo? Ferrino and Judy of League City, TX; two sisters and brothers-in-law; Delores ?Dee-Dee? Rodenberger and Walter of Marietta, Georgia and Angela ?Angie? May and Lee of Troy, TX; brother-in-law and his wife, William (Bill) Thomas and Jackie of Yucaipa, California; four grandchildren; Todd Mounts and Kristy, Jason Froebel and Stacy, Jennifer Borth and Brad and Eric Dryden and Kate and ten great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 6, 2013 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. Funeral service will be Friday, June 7, 2013 at 10:00am at the funeral home with Pastor Arthur Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Gean Leonard, John Leonard, Rick Mitchell, Richard Ferrino, JR., Mike Henson and Joe Howell. Honorary pallbearers will be BJ Miller and Al Chambers.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice Care Team or the Fifty Club of Galveston County.

I was fortunate to work with Rufus from '87-'89 at OCCU and Rufus was a great guy, a true credit to LE, he will be greatly missed but never forgotten, he and Willie Bird must be makin' up for lost time, God bless "Roof" and his family.

I worked with Rufus for many years. He was a truly colorful guy with a big heart. There was never a lack of "Rufiano" stories to be told.

He served his country and his county in a most professional manner. He will be missed.

Rufus was one of the first people I met on the OCCU in 1983. He was a class act. Rest in peace, my friend.

I just learned the sad news of Rufus' passing.

I, too, worked many years with Rufus at the OCCU (later, CID) and had such a special relationship with him. Rufus stories came with me to NC, where I live now, and they still get big laughs. He will live on in the hearts of many.

Rest in peace, Rufie.
