LEAGUE CITY 4TH OF JULY EVENTS

The City of League City will hold the annual July 4th celebration on Friday, July 4, from 11:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at League Park at 200 N. Park St.  City Council, the Parks Board and City staff will be serving refreshments in appreciation of the citizens of League City.  There will be live music performed by The Symphonic Winds of League City, directed by Duane Dippel and The Relics will perform as well. The City will serve more than 4,000 hotdogs, snow cones, cotton candy and nachos.

This year the City will have a celebrity guest.  Chef Sarah Penrod, a contestant on Food Network Star, will do a cooking demonstration and sign autographs.  Chef Sarah is a League City resident and former chef to Tony Parker and Eva Longoria. She’s competing on the Food Network reality show which airs on Sunday nights at 8 p.m.

“This is a great event for the entire family,” said Director of Parks Chien Wei.  “Bring your patriotic spirit and enjoy the free food, entertainment and fun.”

LEAGUE CITY FIRE MARSHAL WARNS RESIDENTS ABOUT THE USE OF FIREWORKS

The City of League City’s Fire Marshal’s Office would like to remind residents that selling, buying, using, or possessing fireworks in the city limits of League City is illegal.  Fire marshals will be on patrol during the holiday week and citations will be issued for violations.  Parents of children using illegal fireworks will be cited as well. Those who are cited could face fines.

There are legal fireworks alternatives available.   Noisemakers and “poppers” are available in local stores and are allowed.  Sparklers are also allowed, but may be more dangerous than most people assume.

“Please remember that while they are legal, sparklers can be very dangerous and residents should use extreme caution when using them,” said Wanda Martin, League City Fire Marshal. “Independence Day holiday is a time of celebration, we want to ensure that those celebrations are done with safety and fire prevention in mind”, said Martin.

To report the illegal use of fireworks in the City of League City, please call the League City Police Department’s non-emergency line at 281-332-2566.
