Motor Vehicle Crash/Vehicle vs. Pedestrian

New Braunfels, Texas —

On June 2, 2014 at approximately 7:14 am, members of the New Braunfels Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the 1100 block of Walzem Mission Rd for a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash. First Responders arrived and located a 69 year old male from New Braunfels, TX who had been struck by a 2011 GMC Sierra pickup truck, while out for his morning walk. The pickup was found to be driven by a 33 year old male from New Braunfels, TX. The pedestrian sustained numerous injuries to his body, including possibleinternal injuries and possible broken bones. The pedestrian was transportedd to University Hospital, in San Antonio, TX for further medical treatment and is currently listed in serious condition.

Investigation showed the driver of the pickup truck was traveling northbound on Walzem Mission and swerved to miss an animal on the roadway, causing his vehicle to mount the curb, strike a New Braunfels Utilities street pole, then hit the pedestrian as he stood along the sidewalk.

No charges are expected to be filed.

The New Braunfels Police Department’s Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.
