The Police News is happy to report that Galveston County Sheriff Freddie Poor has initiated a program of posting sex offenders, newly registered with his department, to The Police News website.  This will afford citizens in the unicorporated areas of Galveston County to know immediately when a registered sex offender moves into their neighborhoods.

The Sheriff's Office will make periodic postings to the website so that Galveston County citizens will have current and timely information on these offenderrs.

One purposed of these postings is that citizens may notify the Sheriff's Office when and if they observe an offender living at an address other than the one which he registers as his home address. 

It is not unusual for these offenders to give law enforcement agencies phony addresses and manpower shortages in most agencies prevent them from making regular physical checks of their addresses. 

Citizen assistance is very helpful to law enforcement when it comes to keeping track of registered sex offenders.

The number to call is posted on the Sex Offender page in The Police News newspaper and on the website.
