COLD SPRING, TX - A former Galveston police officer, fired from his job for drug possession was arrested last night in Cold Spring, Texas by Deputy U.S. Marshal's and Galveston County Sheriff's Deputies.
Price Padgett had been the object of a manhunt for several weeks after he violated the conditions of his probationary sentence and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Padgett, an 11-year veteran of the Galveston police force was sentenced to five years probation in 2007 after he rolled his car on New Years Day 2005 on FM-3005 on West Galveston Island. Officers investigating the crash found traces of the drug Ecstasy in his car.
A jury in the court of State District Judge Lonnie Cox found Padgett guilty of the drug possession charge and the judge sentenced him to the maximum sentence allowed for a person with no prior convictions, 5-years probation.
The search for Padgett created much speculation in law enforcement circles as he was considered an explosive personality with a penchant for guns. Lawmen tracking him were prepared for the worse and hoping for the best as they tracked him throughout various parts of the state.
Fortunately when confronted by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force last night, Padgett surrendered without incident. He is being held in the Galveston County Jail without bond.
