EAST MONTGOMERY COUNTY- A New Caney woman is in jail and Patton Village police are seeking information about her accomplice in the brutal beating and robbery of an elderly man for his Social Security money.

Tanya D. Swarthout, 22, is charged with aggravated robbery, and additional charge may be pending. She remains in the Montgomery County Jail in Conroe in lieu of $100,000 bail.

According to Patton Village Police Chief Joe Schultea, the attack and robbery occurred on July 3 around 9:30 p.m. in the 17300 block of Tram Road, at the home of a 66-year-old man (The name is withheld for his safety).

The victim heard a car pull into his driveway and went onto his porch where he was met by Tanya Swarthout. As they talked, a white man got out of the car, walked up to the porch and attacked the resident with a club, striking the man's head repeatedly causing severe injuries.

Schultea said during the assault, Swarthout went into the man's home and took the $600 he received from Social Security, along with his cell phone. The pair then got back into the vehicle and fled, leaving the victim on his porch bleeding profusely, with no phone to call for help.

Minutes later, the victim's friend happened to stop by and found him still lying on his porch bleeding. She had no phone, so she took the man to her home in New Caney where she called 911.

Medics transported the man to the Kingwood Hospital Emergency Room. Hospital officials contacted the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, but due to confusion over jurisdiction that was created by the man being at a different location when an ambulance was called, Patton Village police were not notified until the man returned home Saturday morning.

The identity of the other person involved in the vicious attack is unknown. He is a white male, around 6 feet 1 inch tall, 180 pounds, medium build with numerous tattoos.

His name may be "Carlos," and he is rumored to be an ex-convict staying somewhere in southeast Montgomery County or Northeast Harris County.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Patton Village Police Chief Joe Schultea at 281-689-9511 or Montgomery County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-STOP (7867).
