CONROE- A Montgomery County Grand Jury has indicted a New Caney man  in connection with a three-vehicle crash in mid-March that took the life of 46-year-old Douglas Berry Allen, Jr. of Splendora.

Jonathan David Porter, 21, of New Caney was true billed on charges of criminally negligent homicide and failure to stop and render aid.

The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. on March 16 in the 23300 block of Loop 494 as Douglas Allen, Jr. waited on his Harley Davidson motorcycle in the northbound lane for a break in traffic to turn into the parking lot of the Porter Sports Bar and Grill where his wife, Lori Allen, was working.

At the scene, shortly after the crash, DPS Trooper Andrew Papanos said Porter's Honda sedan struck the motorcycle from the rear, forcing Allen into oncoming traffic, and into the path of a Chevy Tahoe.

"The white Tahoe struck the motorcycle and the rider with its front left (fender)," Papanos said. "The Honda fled the scene."

The Tahoe was occupied by two women and a small child.

Porter's vehicle was discovered abandoned near the intersection of Hansen Rd. and West Rd. in a neighborhood about a mile from where the accident occurred. Witnesses told investigators a young white male fled on foot from the vehicle.

Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies impounded the four-door blue Mazda passenger car registered to Porter.

On the afternoon following the crash, Porter went to the New Caney office of the Texas Department of Public Safety and surrendered.

Police records indicate Porter had no criminal record and lived off FM 1485 with his parents and siblings at the time of the crash.
