A benefit for Galveston Police Officer Chris Sanderson includes motorcycle ride, auction, music and food.

Chris Sanderson and his twin brother Robert are both Galveston police officers. They are the grandsons of legendary Galveston lawman Oscar Ekelund, a widely known and respected officer for over 50 years.
As part of his treatment Chris is required to leave his job with the police department and spend a week off while in the hospital and at home each time. Of course, the expence of his treatment far exceeds any insurance benefits he gets though his employment.
We recently asked Chief Charles Wiley if Chris has been assigned 'light duty' at the department. He told us that 'light duty' had been offered but Chris declined preferring instead to continue his patrol duties each time he returns to work following a treatment.
The motorcycle ride with start at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at 33rd and Broadway and head out west along FM-3005, through Jamaica Beach and over the San Luis Pass Bridge and into Surfside Beach. It will return via FM-2004 and Highway 6 and back over the causeway into Galveston.
About 100 riders have already signed up.
