For Texas, he's still the one who got away

Jose Salaz left a trail of blood after cutting himself on razor wire while climbing over three prison fences in 1997, fleeing across a field and disappearing into an exclusive class of fugitives: the only escapee from a Texas prison who still remains at large.
Two prison guards at the East Garza unit near Beeville, armed with rifles and shotguns, watched from guard towers as Salaz placed a green, prison-issue jacket over the razor wire. Unlike the guards who stopped a prison break a week ago at the maximum security Polunsky unit near Livingston by shooting and wounding four of the five escapees, the Beeville tower guards merely called to report that someone was escaping.
